چکیده
To the Editor, The Indian Medical Gazette Sir,?In your January 1938 number, Mr. MSyddiq has published a short resume of the life his ^ of the eye-fly, S. funicola. It is however necessary mention that Jepson and Pinto (1927), in the Government Agricultural Service, have studied the life history, and bred the flies artiftci ^ on a variety of dead organic matter: they lived ^ much as six weeks in captivity, and did not breea ^ growing plants, as is usual in the Oscinidcv, to family they belong. , pXe Later on, D. N. Roy (1928) found that they breeding naturally in cattle sheds, where the earth .g sodden with excreta, and Syddiq has restated jg matter thus, ' the breeding place jxir axcellcn0 moist mud, particularly that contaminated by dec ,j, position of organic matter. The damp soiled e around improperly kept pail latrines is a faj ?Vept breeding place; breeding has been found in badiy-^j, cattle stables and more frequently in connection badly-kept and contaminated surface drains As the natural source of the pest is an imp01 ^ matter in some districts, particularly in the ^ gardens, it will be seen that Dr. Roy should be g prior credit for his observations. _,c of It is scarcely necessary to advise on any coui^ action.

The oriental eye fly Siphunculina funicola (1.0-1.6 mm) is extremely annoying to humans and domestic animals, feeding on mucous membranes, secretions, wounds, eyes, and other moist surfaces of the host body. In many rural areas of Thailand heavy populations of this fly prevail where they aggregate on a variety of hanging substrates, such as strings, nest trailings, electrical lines, decorations...

Investigation into the Natural Breeding Places of the Siphunculina Funicola Fly, in Assam
The reason for carrying out this investigati011 into the natural breeding places of the Siphuft' culina funicola fly is twofold. Firstly, because accurate knowledge of the life history of this fly is considered of importance, owing to probable connection with the spread of diseases* such as epidemic conjunctivitis and possibly yaws, and secondly, because the eye-fly ft'0111 April to October is ...

Three commercially available insecticide aerosol compositions containing cyphenothrin, imiprothrin, cypermethrin, d-tetramethrin and permethrin, in various combinations and concentrations were evaluated for control of the oriental eye flies Siphunculina funicola (de Meijere) from their aggregation substrates in two villages in the Chon Buri Province, Thailand. Each aerosol produced almost compl...

Species of eye flies and eye gnats (Diptera: Chloropidae) are severe and persistent pests of man, domestic and wild animals, and potential vectors of pathogens. The species prevailing in the Oriental region belong to the genus Siphunculina, while those in the Neotropic and Nearctic regions belong to Liohippelates and Hippelates. These are small insects of 1-2 mm that feed on wounds, lacerations...
